Below them, the city spreads across the hills of Eretz Yisroel, a clear line of sight stretching a hundred kilometers into Jordan and Syria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Up here, the view is spectacular. Up here, there\u2019s also work to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chaim Sebbag* watches with tears in his eyes. Within minutes, his sukkah is standing. But it\u2019s only when you learn WHO <\/strong>asked the officers to come that this scene makes sense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A body that won’t cooperate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For forty years, Chaim and his wife built their sukkah together on their rooftop, lugging the wooden panels up twelve flights of stairs and assembling them by hand. When Chaim\u2019s wife passed away, he kept going. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then his body stopped cooperating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAs my body ages,\u201d Chaim explains, \u201cmy muscles don\u2019t work. If I\u2019m not careful, injury is close at hand.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the third year Colel Chabad sent people to build his sukkah. And this year, Rabbi Yoram Mauda, the directorof Colel Chabad in Tzfat, arranged for an unexpected team of police officers to assemble the entire structure with practiced efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWithin minutes, they built it much better than I ever did,\u201d says Chaim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And when Sukkos ended, two young men came to take the sukkah apart and store it for the following year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

"There\u2019s no way I could have done it myself,<\/em>\u201d says Chaim simply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Immediate help<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Markowitz family\u2019s troubles arrived without warning and didn\u2019t stop at one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yosef*, a widower raising his daughter in Tzfat, lives frugally on his small pension. Two months ago, his daughter knocked a pot of boiling water onto her foot. Third-degree burns covered the sole, so crutches weren\u2019t an option<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She\u2019s been wheelchair-bound ever since.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A month later, Yosef developed a serious case of cellulitis on his leg.
\u201cExtra medical expenses are outside the budget,\u201d he explains. But alternative medications and taxi fares tospecialists added up to 400 dollars \u2013 money he doesn\u2019t have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


He contacted Colel Chabad of Tzfat.
\u201cRabbi Mauda is a busy man,\u201d he says, \u201cbut he provided those funds immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n


And that was only the beginning. For Sukkos, the organization arranged to have Yosef\u2019s sukkah erected, provided new schach, subsidized a lulav and esrog, and added $200 in food vouchers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey made such a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Everything, at once<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Both Chaim and Yosef live in Tzfat, but Colel Chabad extends this type of support to families across the country. People across Eretz Yisroel can celebrate Yom Tov \u2013 in their own sukkahs \u2013 thanks to Colel Chabad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And back on a high rooftop in Tzfat, a sukkah stands ready. The city shimmers below, and the man who couldn\u2019t
have done the job himself didn\u2019t have to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
