Tzedakah Matzah
Empowering those in need through hand made Shmurah Matzah
The only Shmurah Matzah with Maos Chittim in every bite
The Renner Tzedakah Matzah Bakery, established in 2025 in the holy city of Tsfat, was founded to help alleviate the chronic unemployment rampant in the city.
In addition to supporting dozens of families with gainful employment, the profits from Tzedakah Matzah go entirely to Colel Chabad, Israel’s oldest and most trusted tzedakah and chesed network.
In this way, the loop is completed, and the funds generated by the employees of the Matzah Bakery are directed right back to those in need.
By supporting Tzedakah Matzah, you add significant meaning to the mitzvah of matzah.
*Maos Chittim (lit. money for wheat) is the tzedakah one gives to the needy before Passover in order to enable them to afford matzah and food for the seder meal.
Shmurah Matzah – What is it?
The Torah calls Passover the “Festival of Matzah”. Matzah is at the center of the Seder ritual and defines our Passover cuisine.
‘Shmurah’ (lit. guarded) refers to artisanal, rounded Matzah hand-made from wheat that has been stringently protected – from harvest to baking – against any contact with water. Moisture could cause leavening, thereby rendering it unfit for passover use.
Shmurah Matzah – the recipe and the method – has remained unchanged since that very first Passover, over 3,300 years ago. It is a cherished tradition to have three Shmurah Matzot on the Seder plate.
Matzah Food of our Faith
Our ancestors escaped from slavery in Egypt in haste. There was no time to bake ordinary bread. Thus, Matzah was born.
Matzah is the unleaven bread that has nourished Jewish faith for over 3,000 years. Each year at the Seder table, we reaffirm the Torah’s declaration, “You shall eat Matzah,” as we relive the Exodus Saga and declare our hope to celebrate, “Next year in Jerusalem.”
